Conditions for the use of AI in article writing
- full transparency in the disclosure of information on the use of AI is a prerequisite;
- no AI program may, under any circumstances, be listed as an author or co-author of an article. The AI program may not be listed as a contributor to the research and the article;
- an author should disclose information about the use of AI in the article. The author can do this in the section “Methods” (if the AI was used for data collection, data analysis, image creation), “Acknowledgements” (if the AI was used to work with the language of the manuscript), or describe what work was done in the Introduction. The article should be accompanied by the full text with queries to the chatbot and responses to them. The article must include a link to this app. The result of work with the chatbot is published together with the article;
- the policy does not discourage the use of AI tools to assist in research planning or research method development;
- AI can’t be used in the preparation of a review. Fragments of the article’s text or the review’s text may violate the confidentiality of information received from the author;
- an editor is not allowed to use AI when working on the article.
The description of the work carried out with the help of AI should include:
- Name, version, and developer of the artificial intelligence tools used (e.g., ChatGPT, version dated September 25, based on GPT-4, developed by OpenAI).
- Indication of the sections and scope of the AI tool’s intervention (e.g., “In the Discussion section, approximately 20 % of the text was originally drafted by AI”).
- A description of the type and purpose of the generated content that was included in the article (e.g., “The AI-generated text is intended to provide a structured summary as well as key findings. This generated content was later edited and refined by the authors to ensure consistency, accuracy, and relevance”).
- A description of the prompts that were given to the program, along with the date/time (e.g., a link or screenshot of the chat).
