Conditions for the use of AI in article writing

  • full transparency in the disclosure of information on the use of AI is a prerequisite;
  • no AI program may, under any circumstances, be listed as an author or co-author of an article. The AI program may not be listed as a contributor to the research and the article;
  • an author should disclose information about the use of AI in the article. The author can do this in the section “Methods” (if the AI was used for data collection, data analysis, image creation), “Acknowledgements” (if the AI was used to work with the language of the manuscript), or describe what work was done in the Introduction. The article should be accompanied by the full text with queries to the chatbot and responses to them. The article must include a link to this app. The result of work with the chatbot is published together with the article;
  • the policy does not discourage the use of AI tools to assist in research planning or research method development;
  • AI can’t be used in the preparation of a review. Fragments of the article’s text or the review’s text may violate the confidentiality of information received from the author;
  • an editor is not allowed to use AI when working on the article. 

The description of the work carried out with the help of AI should include:

  • Name, version, and developer of the artificial intelligence tools used (e.g., ChatGPT, version dated September 25, based on GPT-4, developed by OpenAI).
  • Indication of the sections and scope of the AI tool’s intervention (e.g., “In the Discussion section, approximately 20 % of the text was originally drafted by AI”).
  • A description of the type and purpose of the generated content that was included in the article (e.g., “The AI-generated text is intended to provide a structured summary as well as key findings. This generated content was later edited and refined by the authors to ensure consistency, accuracy, and relevance”).  
  • A description of the prompts that were given to the program, along with the date/time (e.g., a link or screenshot of the chat).

The publisher adheres to the “Rules of Conduct” and ethical standards applicable to its work and the work of the journal.
The legal basis for ensuring publication ethics consists of normative legal acts: the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus; the Civil Code of the Republic of Belarus; the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Copyright and Related Rights"; the Universal Copyright Convention signed in Geneva on September 6, 1952; the Code of Ethics of Scientific Publications formulated by the Committee on Ethics of Scientific Publications (Russia, Moscow).
The statement is based on the Core Practices developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding equality of all articles/authors for the editor, editorial board and reviewers; confidentiality; bad faith; originality and plagiarism; and conflicts of interest.

    • to comply the Code of Ethics of scientific publications by all parties involved in the process of publication of scientific papers;
    • to ensure the high quality and reliability of published materials; thoroughness, originality, clarity, completeness of publications; adherence to editors’ independence and integrity.

OPEN ACCESS POLICY

The journal “Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials” is an open access journal based on the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative, in which the copyright holder of a scientific work grants rights of use to others using an open license that allows immediate free access to the work and allows any user to read, download, copy, print, search or link to the full texts of articles.

The journal uses the CreativeCommonsLicense CC-BY-NC-ND. The license allows users to copy, distribute and transmit the article free of charge with the appropriate credit, a link to the license and provided that the article is not used for commercial purposes, the paper is not changed or adapted in any way. If the material is remixed, transformed, or other material is build upon it, the user may not distribute the modified material.

All authors published in the journal accept the terms of publication.
The copyright for the content of all articles and reviews remains with the designated author of the article or review.

The copyright Agreement for cession of the rights to publish the manuscript must be submitted to the editorial office together with the manuscript of the article.

The journal presents all articles that have their own Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for CrossRef.
